BALD HEAD ISLAND, NC (WWAY) -- The start to a new dredging project at Bald Head Island will have to wait a little longer.

The Village of Bald Head Island says the dredge has arrived, but the contractor doing the work for the Army Corps of Engineers is waiting on a pipe to be shipped. That means they expect to start pumping sand by the start of February, instead of the projected start date of Jan. 25.

The village hopes the sand will help renourish West Beach on the island. Adding sand and plans to build a terminal groin are expected to help erosion issues on Bald Head's South Beach.
